AR Infotek has announced three fanless industrial computers based on 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPUs. The Pipal 2050, the 3G- and GPS-enabled Pipal 2050M, and the dual-PCI slot Pipal 2052 are equipped with gigabit Ethernet ports, PCI expansion, and various other I/O, says AR Infotek. (more…)
Novatel Wireless's Linux-based mobile hotspot device will soon be offered by two U.S. wireless carriers, says eWEEK. Verizon Wireless will start offering the “MiFi 2200” to customers on Monday, while Sprint will introduce the Linux-based device in June, says the publication.
The Linux Foundation (LF) has followed up on its acquisition of Linux.com with a promised relaunch of the site. The revamped Linux.com now offers blog hosting, a how-to section, user reviews for products in the directory, and an Ultimate Linux Guru contest, the non-profit organization says.

Digi-Key is shipping a new version of the open-source BeagleBoard development board, once again using the ARM Cortex-A8-based Texas Instruments (TI) OMAP3530 SoC. BeagleBoard.org's BeagleBoard Revision C doubles memory to 256MB, adds a second high-speed USB port, and provides an LCD expansion connector, says Digi-Key.
Zotac released a Mini-ITX motherboard combining Intel Atom processors with Nvidia's Ion northbridge/southbridge combo. The “Ionitx” (left) includes Atom 230 or 330 CPUs, supports HD video playback, sports an HDMI connector and dual S/PDIF audio outputs, and targets construction of “eco friendly” media servers, Zotac says.
Germany-based ROAD has upgraded its multifunction, Linux-based mobile phone. Based on a 512MHz Marvell PXA270, the Handy-PC Officer S101 can act as both a GSM cellular phone and a WiFi-driven PDA and web browser, and it offers a dual SIM-card option, says the company.
NorhTec announced a netbook that operates on eight AA batteries, has an internal power supply, and runs Linux on a 1GHz x86-based SoC (system on chip). The “Gecko EduBook” has an 8.9-inch display, has an easily reconfigurable modular design, and will cost under $200, says NorhTec.
Borg Displays announced two touchscreen panel PCs designed for home control, energy management, kiosks, and digital signage. The 15-inch Protege 15 and 8-inch Protege 8 respectively offer 1GHz Via Eden or 500MHz AMD Geode LX800 processors, and both include gigabit Ethernet connectivity, the company says.
Intel and Nokia have launched an open source project to develop a mobile telephony stack for possible inclusion in the Moblin and Maemo projects. The oFono stack is based on open source Linux and a high-level D-Bus interconnection API, and targets the development of GSM/UMTS applications.
