Fanless industrial computers sport Atom CPUs

May 14, 2009 — by Eric Brown — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 1 views

AR Infotek has announced three fanless industrial computers based on 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPUs. The Pipal 2050, the 3G- and GPS-enabled Pipal 2050M, and the dual-PCI slot Pipal 2052 are equipped with gigabit Ethernet ports, PCI expansion, and various other I/O, says AR Infotek.

The Pipal 205x systems can be used for home and factory automation control, POS (point of sale/service), kiosks, drilling machines, gateway control, vending machines, or in the case of the Pipal 2050 and 2050M, in-vehicle use, says AR Infotek. All the systems are based on similar single-board computers (SBCs) with Intel Atom N270 CPUs and 945GSE chipsets, as well as up to 1.5GB of DDR2 RAM.

The systems all offer brackets for a 2.5-inch SATA hard disk drive (HDD) that can be installed from either the top or bottom of the motherboard, says the company. The Pipal 2050 model apparently also includes two CompactFlash slots, with one of them hot swappable, though no information was provided on whether these slots are accessible without opening the PC's case.

Pipal 2052

AR Infotek says each of the systems offer Mini PCI and Mini PCIe slots; the Pipal 2050 also provides a single 32-bit PCI slot, while the taller Pipal 2052 model provides two PCI slots. A gigabit Ethernet port is standard on all the systems, and the Pipal 2050 and 2052 models offer a variety of serial interfaces, with up to five COM ports available on the Pipal 2052.

The “mobile” 2050M is the same 8.1 x 9.0 x 3.0-inch size as the 2050, but is mobile in the sense that it offers a Sierra MC8795V-based HSDPA (high speed downlink packet access) modem and a GPS receiver using the SiRF starIII chipset. It also accepts a wider range of DC input power than its siblings, and is said to support a “smart battery interface.”

Specifications listed for the Pipal 2050, 2050M, and 2052 include:
