Open Kernel Labs (OK Labs) announced the availability of a mobile virtualization reference platform for its Android version of the OKL4 microkernel hypervisor (“Microvisor”). The Android “One Core” platform appears to be the first implementation of version 4.0 of OKL4, which offers security and performance enhancements, says the company.
Nvidia will launch new GeForce GPU (graphics processing units) tomorrow using its next-generation “Fermi” architecture, The Wall Street Journal reports. It's said the products will include 512 cores and three billion transistors, doubling the amounts in the company's previous chips.
Opengear announced a new version of its Linux-based ACM5000 line of serial device servers, claimed to be the first to offer remote monitoring over 3G cellular network devices. The ACM5004-G is equipped with four serial ports, an Ethernet port, and a USB port, and supports EDGE, GPRS, GSM, HSDA and HSUPA networks.
Wind River expanded its partner validation program for Wind River Linux and VxWorks to the aerospace and defense market. Wind River announced initial partnerships with AdaCore, Aicas, Alt Software, Atego, Esterel Technologies, Presagis, and PrismTech, all of which will provide software that is integrated and validated with the latest releases of Wind River's embedded distributions, says the company.
Samsung Electronics announced an Android smartphone with a 1GHz processor and a four-inch, WVGA Super AMOLED touchscreen. The Galaxy S GT-I9000 is said to ship with either 8GB or 16GB of flash, and provides 3G HSDPA, 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth, A-GPS, a five-megapixel camera, and a front-facing VGA webcam, says Samsung.
Sprint and HTC announced the first 4G WiMAX-capable Android smartphone, with downloads claimed to be up to ten times faster than 3G. The HTC Evo 4G is powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, and includes a 4.3-inch, 800 x 480 touchscreen with pinch-to-zoom, a mobile WiFi hotspot router, and an eight-megapixel camera.
Kyocera Communications announced its first Android phone, aiming at the mid-range of the market. The Kyocera Zio M6000 is equipped with a Qualcomm MSM7627 SoC and 3.5-inch WVGA display, plus WiFi, aGPS, Bluetooth 2.0, a 3.2-megapixel, video-ready camera, and up to six hours of talk time, says the company.

Motorola announced what it says is the first push-to-talk phone to run Android. The rugged Motorola i1 runs on Sprint's iDEN-ready Nextel Direct Connect service, and offers a 3.1-inch, 480 x 320 touchscreen, up to 32GB of flash, WiFi, a five-megapixel camera, plus the Opera Mini 5 browser running on Android 1.5.
Texas Instruments (TI) announced a high-end SoC for DVRs and video communications systems that combines a 1GHz Cortex-A8 with a C64x+ DSP. The TMS320DM8168 has four times the performance of its predecessor, handling up to three channels of 1080p video or 16 D1 streams, the company says.

Wind River and Cavium Networks announced a partnership to co-market Linux- and VxWorks-based multi-core solutions. Aiming Cavium's MIPS64-based Octeon and Octeon II system-on-chips at the networking and telecom markets, the partnership is the first deal between the companies since Cavium acquired Wind River rival MontaVista in December.

Shuttle announced an all-in-one PC featuring a 15.6-inch touchscreen and a dual-core Intel Atom D510 processor available with SUSE Linux. The X50V2 includes a 1366 x 768 pixel display, webcam, a microphone and stereo speakers, a 4-in-1 card reader, plus room for a 2.5-inch hard disk drive and up to 4GB of RAM, the company says.
A Berlin-based software company is preparing an Intel Atom N450-based e-reader that runs Linux with Android extensions. Billed as the “tablet PC for publishing houses,” Neofonie GmbH's “WePad” tablet sports an 11.6-inch touchscreen, 16GB of flash storage, a SD card, WiFi, Bluetooth, USB, and a webcam, says Neofonie.
