250 open source packages to be tested for quality, security

May 1, 2007 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 1 views

A website offering software quality and security analyses of 150 open source software projects will add 100 more in a couple of days. Scan.coverity.com will add analyses of Blender, GIMP, and other “end-user professional applications,” to better show off the capabilities of Coverity's software quality and security analysis tools.

Coverity said a major infrastructure upgrade has enabled it to expand its Scan.Coverity.com website. The expansion will take place on May 4, to coincide with the start of the Libre Graphics Meeting in Montreal.

Bryce Harrington, a leader of the Inkscape vector graphics project, endorsed the expansion, stating, “As a test engineer at the Open Source Development Labs, I have been using the defects Coverity reported for Linux NFSv4. The way Coverity's product communicates information about every reported defect is especially valuable. It's rare to find this level of information in tests typically available to open source developers. Coverity has again showed its good will in now analyzing open source graphics projects.”
