M-Systems and LynuxWorks today announced support for M-Systems' DiskOnChip flash storage technology under LynuxWorks' BlueCat Linux embedded OS. DiskOnChip supports the harsh environments and other embedded requirements of embedded computing applications ranging from military systems to Internet appliances. LynuxWorks will also support DiskOnChip under its LynxOS proprietary RTOS.

In connection with the announcement, Chuck Schouw, president and CEO of M-Systems Ltd., said: “The Linux operating system, which is scalable down to a size as low as 1MB, is ideally suited for use with M-Systems' DiskOnChip products. Within its small form factor and solid-state design, DiskOnChip provides ample capacity for the operating system, applications and data files needed in most Linux-based devices. DiskOnChip can also serve as a hard disk disaster recovery device in server and Internet infrastructure applications. The BlueCat Linux technology will further drive the company into the embedded applications market.”

Said Inder Singh, CEO and Chairman of LynuxWorks, said: “The strategic relationship with M-Systems will provide customers of both companies more choices for flash disk solutions. Customers will be able to choose open source BlueCat Linux, or for real-time requirements, LynxOS. Linux-based products supporting DiskOnChip are now shipping in high volume in a wide range of applications including set-top boxes, Internet infrastructure, networking products and embedded devices.”
