Irvine, CA — (press release excerpt) — Broadcom Corp. today announced availability of a new single-chip Bluetooth device that features the industry's best radio performance and smallest chip package. The Broadcom Blutonium BCM2035 achieves greater radio sensitivity than any other Bluetooth radio on the market, increasing the effective range over which Bluetooth-enabled equipment can wirelessly share… information. In addition, the 5 x 6 mm package size is smaller than any other Bluetooth solution.

Although optimized for use in mobile devices, the BCM2035 is also ideally suited for use in industrial and automotive applications, and is operational within the industrial temperature range of -40 C to +85 deg C.

Broadcom has incorporated many advanced features into its Bluetooth firmware to complement the BCM2035's excellent radio capabilities, providing overall Bluetooth system performance that exceeds requirements for the industry's most popular applications. The software is compatible with forthcoming Bluetooth 1.2 optional features, such as Anonymity Mode for added security and enhanced power control for extended battery life.

The BCM2035 is now sampling to Broadcom's early access partners. It is expected to ramp to volume production in the first quarter of 2003 and will be available for less than $5.00 in high volume.
