Carrier grade net stack to gain virtual routing, scalability features

Carrier-grade network stack provider Interpeak will improve the scalability and virtual routing capabilities of its IPNet IP networking stack by integrating several advanced routing protocol implementations from Data Connection Limited (DCL).

IPNet is a dual mode IPv4/IPv6 TCP/IP routing stack for telecom/datacom gateways, switches, and routers. Interpeak will add DCL's implementations of the BGP, IS-IS(-TE), and OSPF(-TE) routing protocols.

According to Interpeak, the new protocols will extend IPNet's virtual routing capabilities: IPNet supports virtual routing only through the multiplication of routing tables, while DCL's IP routing software supports multiple routing table managers and protocol instances.

Additionally, DCL's methods use very little memory, and will support massively scaled systems, the companies say.

"Our flexible software framework allows customers to use a single codebase across a range of platforms,” said DCL VP Matthew Finlayson.
