Real-time Linux vendor eyes aerospace, defense

FSMLabs has hired Dr. C. Douglass Locke to help expand its presence in the aerospace and defense (A&D) market. The former Lockheed-Martin Chief Scientist and former TimeSys VP of Technology will serve as consulting engineer, while his consulting company will join FSMLabs's third-party integrator network. Linux phone stack to debut at LinuxWorld

[Updated 12:30] — Startup a la Mobile says its Linux-based mobile phone stack is available now for customer evaluation. PowerQUICC gains new protocol microcode

DoGav Systems will soon ship two new microcode products for Freescale PowerQUICC processors. One implements “System Fabric Plane” (SFP.1) protocol, described as a “multiplexed voice-over-packet protocol” that supports higher densities than VoIP. The other implements “Generic Framing Protocol” (GFP), said to offer lower latency and greater bandwidth determinism than HDLC (high-level data link control). (more…)

TimeSys adds uClibc toolchains, docs

TimeSys announced that its online service for embedded Linux developers now offers the latest release of uClibc on five architectures, and that it has added new documentation on alternative C libraries, and on building reduced-footprint, flash-based Linux filesystems. Extreme-temp XScale PC/104 SBC does crypto, runs Linux

Arcom is shipping an extended-temperature PC/104 SBC (single-board computer) available with a Linux dev kit. The “Vulcan,” which targets remote, unattended installations, is based on an Intel IXP425 network processor clocked at 533MHz, and supports temperatures from -72 to 153 degrees Fahrenheit (-40 to +85 C).
