DaVinci gains commercial Linux Gstreamer framework

MPEG-4 codec vendor Ateme has ported the open source GStreamer media application framework to the newest Texas Instruments (TI) RISC/DSP chips, and is offering an “audio/video software system” for the platform. Linux flies with real-time Ada apps on Euro UAVs

EADS (European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company) is using virtualization software from Sysgo in a design aimed at reducing avionics system costs in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). PikeOS enables multiple software platforms to share one hardware platform, while “opening the door” to Linux and other open-source components for non-critical applications, Sysgo says. (more…)

PXA270-based reference design runs Linux

Intrinsyc has added an LCD module and graphics stack based on Opie (open palmtop integrated environment) to its Intel XScale PXA270-based Linux reference design. Russian outsourcing provider Luxoft has opened a second Eastern European development office. Magnetic memory to replace flash?

Freescale is shipping what is claimed to be the first commercial Magnetoresistive Random Access Memory (MRAM) chip. MRAM, which combines magnetic materials with conventional silicon circuitry, can deliver RAM-like speeds, flash-like nonvolatility, and unlimited “endurance,” according to the company. (more…)

Linux software radio transceiver rev’d
