CE Linux conference invites registrants

Low-cost, low-power EBX SBC supports Linux

ColdFire Linux support targets embedded control, GUIs

A six-year-old, German embedded Linux vendor is offering uClinux tools and services for a Freescale SoC (system-on-chip) targeting control applications. Emlix says it worked with Freescale to create products and services for the DragonFire MCF5329, which features a 240MHz core, LCD controller, and optional CAN-bus, Ethernet, and crypto engine. Linux growth strong in $6B North American POS market

Shipments of PC-based point-of-sale (POS) systems in North America grew five percent in 2005, to nearly $6 billion, market analyst IHL reported Wednesday. Linux-based systems accounted for nine percent of shipments, up from five percent the previous year. Windows-based systems led the market, with a 71 percent share of shipments, IHL reported. (more…)

Embedded Linux startup reports success, growth

A small, US-based professional services and consulting company specializing in embedded Linux reports that its revenues grew by an order of magnitude in 2005, while its staff size tripled. Embedded Alley Solutions CEO Pete Popov says the company was also able to increase its level of profitability during the year. (more…)

Embedded Linux vendor pledges FPGA optimizations

LynuxWorks has joined Xilinx's third party network, and the two companies have pledged to jointly optimize LynuxWorks's embedded operating systems for Xilinx's Virtex-4 family of FPGAs (field-programmable gate arrays). The Virtex-4 family includes an FX line capable of running embedded Linux on one or dual PowerPC softcores. (more…)

New low-voltage, dual-core Xeon gains Carrier Grade Linux

Wind River says its commercial embedded Linux implementation for networking applications supports a low-voltage, dual-core Xeon processor shipped today by Intel.
