Real-time Linux targets AMD64

FSMLabs says its real-time Linux distributions now support AMD64. RTLinuxPro and Carrier Grade RTLinux support AMD Opteron, Athlon 64, and Turion 64 chips. Targeted applications include communications blades, dedicated networking and security systems, instrumentation and control hardware, high performance simulation, and high resolution imaging, according to the company. Compact SBC runs Linux on Pentium/Celeron M

Win Enterprises is sampling an embedded board in a custom form-factor it says was designed to support a fanless Pentium M or Celeron M CPU in the smallest package possible. Low-cost embedded Linux dev kit includes ARM9 board

Viosoft and KwikByte have teamed on a sub-$500 embedded Linux development kit for ARM920T-based devices. The kit includes KwikByte's KB9202 development board and Viosoft's Arriba Embedded Linux Edition toolsuite, and can be used for end-to-end development and debug from Linux or Windows hosts, the companies say. x86 is no longer the top architecture for embedded Linux devices, according to LinuxDevices.com's 2005 reader survey. ARM has passed x86 in new projects, our research suggests, while PowerPC is gaining quickly. IBM launches dual-core PowerPC 970 chip

IBM has launched a dual-core version of its 64-bit PowerPC 970 (G5) chip at a “Power Everywhere” event in Tokyo. The dual-core 970MP has 1MB of L2 cache for each core, and clocks from 1.4 to 2.5 GHz. IBM additionally announced improved power management for the 970FX. (more…)

LG to ship Palm-compatible Linux smartphones?

LG Electronics has signed an agreement with PalmSource to license Palm OS worldwide. The deal gives LG the right to develop and market smartphones based on Palm OS, and could make LG the first vendor to ship Linux mobile phones capable of running Palm OS applications. (more…)

Wind River, Ericsson co-sponsor Linux networking event

Wind River and Ericsson will co-sponsor the 2005 edition of an annual invitation-only Linux kernel-level networking design meeting. Axiomtek is shipping a mini-ITX board that supports Intel Pentium-4 and Celeron processors, along with a rolled steel micro-box with 180-Watt ATX power supply. The SBC86800 board supports Linux, and along with the EM603201 case, targets industrial and consumer computing applications such as personal video recorders. (more…)

uClinux-powered CompactFlash computer goes wireless

C Data has added support for a Linksys WiFi card to its tiny computer system built entirely of CompactFlash cards. The company says its Compact Flash Computer can be used to rapidly develop devices for remote data acquisition, wireless networking equipment, NAS devices, and autonomous vehicles. (more…)

Bsquare acquires embedded assets from Vibren

Bsquare Corp. says it has acquired a set of embedded assets of Vibren Technologies for $500,000, including software products, customer relationships, ongoing royalty streams, and new marketing channels, as well as eight sales and engineering personnel.
