EclipseCon announces speakers, program details

A conference devoted to the Eclipse framework for cross-vendor tools integration has announced programs and speakers for its second annual event, set for Feb. 28 through Mar. 3 in Burlingame, Calif. Researchers hold Gelato socials in Pittsburgh, Beijing

High performance platform virtualization software achieves major release

An open source project to create high-performance virtual machine software has achieved its second major release. Xen 2.0 is said to enable multiple instances of ported OS kernels to run at “close to native” speeds on a single x86 computer, with no modifications to applications or libraries needed. Quarter-sized BlueGene/L doubles supercomputing record

BlueGene/L, the revolutionary IBM supercomputer based on embedded processor technology, has set another supercomputing record. Although only a quarter complete, BlueGene/L has turned in a LINPACK benchmark result that nearly doubles a previous supercomputing record that stood for three years. (more…)

Zaurus-centric cyberthriller ships in paperback

A novel both about — and written on — a Linux-based Sharp Zaurus has been released in paper form. Z4CK, by Scottish security professional Kevin Milne, is a cyberthriller set in 2031, whose protagonist uses a wireless-enabled Sharp Zaurus to defend himself from false murder accusations. (more…)

OSDL sponsors high-availability Linux project

The OpenAIS project aims to meet the Service Availability (SA) Forum's high availability specification for Carrier Grade Linux, enabling systems to achieve 99.9999 percent uptime despite network and other failures. Chinese company readies portable Linux AV player

Kontron, MontaVista partner on AdvancedTCA/CGL bundles

Major electronics distributor adds high-end PowerPC embedded Linux dev kit
