FSMLabs has revised its hard real-time Linux and BSD operating systems. RTLinuxPro 2.1 and RTCoreBSD 2.1 feature improved multi-OS partitioning, expanded CPU architecture and board support, and tighter integration with included development tools, the company says. (more…)

Linux 2.6 BSP, tools target telematics apps

Sysgo adds embedded Linux support for Kontron SBC “modules”

Sysgo says its commercial embedded Linux distribution now supports various ETX format SBCs (single board computers) from Kontron. The ELinOS distribution includes a configuration utility said to free developers from needing to know specific details of supported Kontron “computer-on-modules.”

Jungo ports CPCI hot swap driver infrastructure to Linux

Jungo is shipping a newly-ported Linux version of its hot-swap software infrastructure for CompactPCI (CPCI) systems. Go-HotSwap version 6.22 comprises development tools and libraries said to enable developers to create hot-swap aware device drivers for CPCI devices. Sharp adds hard drive to Linux based Zaurus PDA

Sharp will reportedly launch a Linux PDA with an internal hard disk drive early next month. According to The Register, the Zaurus SL-C3000 will ship in Japan on November 10th, and will be based on a 416MHz Intel XScale PXA270 (formerly Bulverde) processor. (more…)

OQO crams 1GHz PC into pocket-sized device

OQO is finally shipping its first “ultra-personal computer” in volume. The pocket-sized Model 01 offers a full-sized PC's worth of functionality, including a 1GHz Transmeta Crusoe processor, a 20 GB hard drive, and 256 MB of memory. It can run most any PC-compatible OS, including Linux. (more…)

A French company that claims to be the world's largest manufacturer of portable DVD players has added a unique capability to its medallion-shaped portable MP3 players. Low-cost SoC targets networked Linux devices

NetSilicon will sample in November a low-cost one-chip network device SoC (system-on-chip) that will hit production in March, 2005, priced between $11 and $16 in 10K quantities. The NS9360 is based on a 200MHz ARM9 core, with an LCD controller and networking.
