MEN Micro has joined a MontaVista program that lets IHVs (independent hardware vendors) create and self-certify BSPs (board support packages) that can qualify for the same support terms from MontaVista as MontaVista's own internally created BSPs, or “LSPs” (Linux support pacakges) as MontaVista terms them. DeviceForge has published a brief “key findings” report from InStat/MDR about chip-to-chip interfaces. The report suggests that HyperTransport, PCI Express, and RapidIO are poised to grow at a 173 percent CAGR (compound annual growth rate) between 2003 to 2008, replacing the PCI interface in a variety of specialized applications. NEC is the latest vendor to announce a laptop with a built-in embedded Linux based media player option. The NEC Versa S3000 will use InterVideo's InstantOn technology to enable users to listen to music, watch DVDs, and more without having to wait for Windows to load. (more…)
