Tiny modem chipset supports Embedded Linux

Allentown, PA — (press release) — Lucent Technologies Microelectronics Group today introduced an exceptionally small, low-power chip set that equips Internet appliances, set-top boxes, multi-function peripherals, fax machines, and electronic games with both fax and data services, such as the capability to download text, audio, and graphics at up to 56 kilobits per second (Kbit/s). Triscend announces ARM SOC with 3,200 field-configurable cells

Triscend Corporation (Mountain View, CA), has introduced what it claims is “the industry's first 32-bit Configurable System-on-Chip” (CSoC). The A7 CSoC contains an ARM7TDMI CPU core, memory, a variety of system controllers, plus a large array (up to 40,000) of user-configurable gates. (more…)

M-Systems acquires data security and crypto technology company

Tel Aviv, ISRAEL — (press release) — M-Systems today announced the acquisition of Fortress U&T Ltd., a privately held, Israel-based data security company, for approximately $8 million in an all cash deal. RadiSys, LynuxWorks to develop an open HA Linux architecture

Hillsboro, OR — (press release) — RadiSys Corp. and LynuxWorks have announced plans to develop an Open Architecture High-Availability Linux system targeted for telecom and embedded system applications which require “5NINES” or better availability. “5NINES” availability refers to system availability greater than 99.999% of the time, implying five minutes or less down time per year.
