Kontron is sampling an evaluation kit for a tiny SBC (single-board computer) implemented in the company's PCI- and LPC-compatible CoM (computer-on-module) form-factor. The Starter Kit includes Kontron's “X-Board GP8” CoM, along with a carrier board and Linux BSP (board support package).

Kontron announced the X-Board GP8 in March. The 2.6 x 1.9 inch board is based on an Intel XScale 80219 microprocessor clocked at 400Mhz or 600MHz, along with an SM501 chipset from Silicon Motion SM501. It comes with up to 32MB of Flash, and up to 128MB of SDRAM.

The GP8 Starter Kit includes an evaluation baseboard with interfaces and claimed features as follows:

• 3 x USB 2.0
• 1 x 10/100 LAN
• 2 x serial UART interfaces
• 2 x PCI interfaces for expansion cards
• AC97 audio codec
• 1 x slot for vibration-free CompactFlash cards
• 1 x SODIMM slot for more RAM
• 16MB graphics memory
  • CRT and LCD/TFT displays up to 1280 x 1024
  • Dual independent displays
• Embedded OS support
  • Linux BSP included on CD-ROM
  • Windows CE OS pre-installed
  • VxWorks and QNX support also available

Availability

Prototypes of the X-Board GP8 starter kits for Linux and Windows CE are available now, with prices starting around 175 Euro (~$207) in small quantities, Kontron said.
