The second annual “Open Source in Mobile” (OSiM) conference has announced its sponsors and program of events. Set for Sep. 18-19 in Madrid, Spain, the event features keynotes from representatives of Nokia, Access, Red Hat, Motorola, Telecom Italia, and HP.

The inaugural OSiM was held last November, in Amsterdam. That event featured the unveiling of OpenMoko, a keynote from Ari Jaaksi of Nokia, and the debut of Celunite, a venture-funded open phone integrator based in India.

This year's OSiM program has three tracks:

  • Technical Track:
    • Linux for Mobile — addressing fragmentation and platform development
    • Mobile Linux tools and development support
    • Using open source development to innovate in applications and services
    • Understanding the impact of the open sourcing of Java
  • Strategic Track A:
    • The “what, when, why, and how” of open source in mobile
    • Open source and Linux business case studies
    • Assessing and fulfilling the market's software requirements
    • Addressing the security question
    • How open is “open for mobile”?
  • Strategic Track B:
    • Working successfully with open source communities
    • Effective models for development and community partnership
    • Understanding open source licensing and IPR
    • Minimizing the legal risks of software licensing
    • Investing in open source and Linux

Additionally, a “Developer Pass” will entitle the bearer to attend demonstrations and informal talks, including a GNOME Mobile and Embedded (GMAE) “masterclass.”

Event sponsors include Access, Celunite, Wind River, Trolltech, and a la Mobile. The conference is endorsed by Eclipse.org, Gnome, the Open Mobile Terminal Platform, Open Mobile Alliance, and LiPS. Additional details can be found on the event website, here.
