Startup touts Linux mobile phone development services
Nov 8, 2006 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 5 viewsYet another Linux mobile phone platform and services provider is preparing to enter the market. Celunite, a venture-funded Silicon Valley startup with development offices in Pune and Hyderabad, India, will reportedly offer value-added software/hardware integration services aimed at speeding time-to-market for handset manufacturers.
Few details about Celunite are currently available, and its website remains under construction. However, representatives of the company did attend the inaugural “Open Source in Mobile” conference this week in Amsterdam. The company did not deliver a presentation at the event, but one attendee who met with them compared their business model to that of A la Mobile, another venture-funded company that signed up its first customer last month, after showcasing its Linux mobile phone stack in August.
San Francisco-based news blog publisher GigaOM reports that Celunite received an investment of $30 million from Garnett & Helfrich Capital. India-based news agency TheHindu, meanwhile, reports that the venture firm has a controlling interest in the privately held, U.S.-based company.
Meanwhile, Linux mobile phone software platforms and/or integration services are available from Trolltech, MontaVista, PurpleLabs, Access/Palmsource, Wind River, Wipro, VirtualLogix, FSMLabs, Aplix, Esteemo, OpenMoko, and possibly others.
