A weekly social networking event in Helsinki devoted to open source software is sponsoring a contest to suggest uses for Nokia's 770 Internet tablet. The contest, sponsored by “Open-Tuesday,” is open to private individuals, associations, and corporation globally, and three winners will be awarded 770 tablets.

The Open-Tuesday contest has three categories, including “entertainment,” “business,” and “vertical solutions.” The categories will be open for submissions sequentially, with closing dates of Aug. 15, Oct. 15, and Dec. 15.

No pre-registration is required; entrants should simply type up their ideas and send them by email. Entries should be about half a page long. Once the winner in each category has been announced, entries will be published under an open source license on the Open-Tuesday website.

Actually implementing submitted ideas is not required for participation. However, working demoes will be “considered positively” in selecting winners, Open-Tuesday says.

Contest judges include Dr. Ari Jaaksi, of Nokia, as well as Helsinki University professors and technologies from various other Helsinki businesses.
