The Linux Foundation (LF) has opened registration and issued a call for participation for its third-annual Collaboration Summit, to be held April 8-10, at the Hotel Kabuki in San Francisco. This year's event will include a Moblin Development Summit, and also feature the winner of the “I'm Linux” video contest.

The Collaboration Summit is billed as an exclusive, invitation-only “gathering of the brightest minds in Linux,” who will together “tackle and solve the most pressing issues facing Linux today,” says the LF. Attendees will include core kernel developers, distribution maintainers, ISVs, end users, system vendors, and other community organizations, says the nonprofit group.

The Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit will be co-located in San Francisco with the CELF (Consumer Electronics Linux Forum) Embedded Linux Conference, as well as the Linux Storage and Filesystem Workshop, both of which will run in the days directly prior to the LF event.

This year's Summit will focus on high performance computing and systems management, as well as offering both a Moblin Development Summit and Linux ISV Summit. LF workgroups meeting at the event include OpenPrinting and the LSB (Linux Standard Base), and there will be collaboration among the LF's end-user, vendor, and technical advisory councils, says the group.

LF's call for participation opens up

While the Collaboration Summit is still invitation only, for the first time the LF is inviting all members of the Linux and open source software communities to submit a proposal, says the group. Prospective speakers can submit proposals in one or more of the following session types: Presentation, keynote, panel discussion, workgroup, or mini summit, says the LF. Each session can run for a half day, a full day, or even two days. Sessions should include real-life examples and case studies, and focus on collaboration, says the LF. In addition, workgroup sessions are asked to include a clear agenda and scope.

• Filesystems
• Green Linux
• High performance computing
• Kernel quality
• Linux ISV / application packaging
• LSB
• OpenPrinting
• Planning for the future of Linux
• Systems management / tracing
• Virtualization

Workgroups and advocacy groups that have previously met at the Collaboration Summit are said to include: Carrier Grade Linux (CGL), Desktop Architects, FOSSBazaar, GNOME Mobile, IPv6, Open Source Legal, LSB, Drivers and Driver Backporting, OpenPrinting, Power Management, and Virtualization.

The free, invitation-only Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit 2009 will be held April 8-10, 2009, at the Hotel Kabuki in San Francisco.
