Course for developers new to Linux comes with optional laptop
Mar 18, 2004 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 1 viewsA new course from LinuxCertified may interest some embedded Linux programmers new to working on Linux hosts. “Linux Software Development Training” will be offered publicly and to corporations starting in April. Students in the 3-day classes are supplied with a Linux laptop that they may purchase after the course.
“It gives them an environment to work in, after the class,” notes LinuxCertified Marketing VP Rajesh Goyal. Goyal adds that LinuxCertified also began offering its Linux laptops a la cart, due to demand.
LinuxCertified's new training course costs $1,200 per student. A range of laptops are available, from refurbished ThinkPad 600s priced at $569 to a Pentium 4 desktop replacement priced at $2,410. A $1,400 Centrino-based laptop was recently reviewed favorably by LinuxPlanet.
LinuxCertified machines are available with Xandros, Fedora, or SuSE pre-installed, according to Goyal.
Course attendees should be familiar with a Unix text editor, such as vi or emacs. More class details are available in the course description.
