Denx plants 2.6 kernel tree, preps major ELDK release

Oct 3, 2005 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Denx Software Engineering will ship a major new version of its freely licensed embedded Linux development kit in the weeks ahead. Embedded Linux Development Kit 4.0 (ELDK) will use a 2.6-series kernel source tree already available from Denx. Also available now are 2.6-series kernel images for several PowerPC development boards.

Denx's ELDKs consist of tools, kernel source code, Linux BSPs (board support packages), and root filesystem sources and images for a variety of popular development boards. ELDKs can be freely downloaded under the terms of the GPL, and used as the basis of commercial projects Commercial support for ELDKs is also optionally available from Denx.

Denx last revised its ELDKs in February, with the 3.1 release, which brought the toolkits in sync with Linux 2.4.25. Denx says it will continue to offer support for its 2.4-series products.

Denx's new 2.6-series kernel source tree is available now, via git or ftp. It has already been used to build binary kernel images for a number of AMCC development boards, including 2.6.14rc3 images for Bamboo, Bubinga, Ebony, Ocotea, Sycamore, Walnut, Yellowstone, and Yosemite boards.

Denx's kernel images for AMCC development boards are available for download now, along with U-Boot bootloader images and extensive documentation. Denx's 2.6 kernel tree is available for perusal and download, here.

Denx also helps maintain the open-source Das U-Boot bootloader.
