DIY embedded Linux service gets Qt, drops prices
Apr 3, 2009 — by Eric Brown — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 3 viewsTimesys announced updates to its LinuxLink embedded Linux development subscription service, including Qt 4.5 support and a “recession special” that is said to cut the price of a one-year subscription by more than half. Other new features include new Intel IXP435 and Renesas SH support, says the company.
The Timesys announcements relate to its recently updated LinuxLink 3.0 embedded Linux development subscription service. The newly automated version 3.0 formally incorporates its Timesys Factory build engine, and adds web-services-based automation, plus a new interface and Toolkit. As with the previous LinuxLink, the new version is said to offer collections of Linux sources, gathered and updated from thousands of community sources, and patched and configured for a wide variety of processors and development kits.
Here is a summary of the latest Timesys LinuxLink announcements:
- Getting Qt — Timesys now provides the Nokia/Qt Software (formerly Trolltech) Qt 4.5 C++ class library as part of its Timesys Factory offerings. The Qt Embedded for Linux framework can be merged into a custom Linux platform design with the Factory interface, and then configured to use in any of the recently released Qt 4.5 modules, says the company.
- Renesas SH support — As reported earlier this month, LinuxLink now supports the Renesas SH7751 and SH7785 processors. The company says it will provide a 2.6.27 kernel with support for serial, Ethernet, PCI, USB Host, and NOR flash interfaces on the RTS7751R2D and SH7785LCR reference platforms. Toolchain provided include GCC 4.2.4, glibc 2.7, and Binutils 2.18.50.
- Intel IXP435 support — A 2.6.28 Linux kernel and NPE drivers are now available for Intel's “KIXP435” reference board. We assume this is related to the IXP435 multi-service residential gateway reference platform based on Intel's IXP435 network processor. Users can configure an initial Linux platform for an IXP435-based project, with driver support for serial, Ethernet (NPE), PCI, NOR flash, and NAND flash, says Timesys.
- Middleware additions — New middleware packages added to the Timesys Factory include netperf, libffi, libsepol, acl, and attr. Newly updated middleware includes glibc 2.9, gtk+ 2.16, bash 4.0, xorg-server 1.5.1, and samba 3.0.34.
- Recession special — Timesys announced a special offer in which a one-year, one-seat LinuxLink subscription has been reduced from $7,000 to $3,000.
