Eclipse members partner on plugins portal

Feb 3, 2004 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Longtime Eclipse members Innoopract, Instantiations, and Genuitec have allied to create Eclipse Plugin Central, a portal offering software publishers a distribution channel, and developers a place to find, evaluate, and buy plugins that work with the Eclipse framework for cross-vendor tools integration.

According to its founders, Eclipse Plugin Central provides:

  • Comprehensive directory of open source, free, commercial software, consulting, training and services
  • Rich information resources center that includes industry news, discussion forums, technical information, user reviews and ratings
  • Support for the new independent Eclipse organization and Eclipse ecosystem
  • Planned eMarketplace for Eclipse related products and services

To kick off Eclipse Plugin Central, the Alliance will donate $10 to the new independent Eclipse organization for each of the first 100 plug-ins listed by developers. A portion of ongoing revenue from the portal will go to the new independent Eclipse organization to help support the growth of the community.

Skip McGaughey, spokesperson for Eclipse stated, “The Eclipse Plugin Central Alliance has created the first global portal where everyone, including professional project leaders, can go to learn about, evaluate, and license commercial grade Eclipse powered offerings.”
