ELEC: Embedded PowerPC Linux

Topics included a brief history, some programming tips, and product success stories. Members of the audience learned what — and what not — to do when trying to port to custom hardware, and where to look for help. The talk also examined why a workstation-based kernel is both helpful and challenging, and what features to expect in the future.
Speaker bio: Dan Malek is a member of the technical staff of MontaVista Software and tries to manage the office in New Hampshire. He has over 20 years of embedded real-time system development experience in a wide variety of environments. Dan ported PowerPC Linux to the embedded Motorola MPC860 processor in 1997, and continues to develop software for the newest embedded PowerPC processors.
