IBM's developerWorks website has published an introductory level tutorial that gives you a guide to the basics of using Emacs, a popular modeless text editor with powerful features. This tutorial, entitled “Living in Emacs”, covers fundamental concepts and common activities, and then builds on those foundations to familiarize you with the editor.

After a quick (2 minutes, tops) registration, you can begin the tutorial. The tutorial should take you about 2 hours to complete. You can take it online, or download a PDF or zip file of the tutorial.
