Embedded Linux Consortium members to meet at ESC
Sep 5, 2000 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 1 viewsSanta Rosa, CA — (press release) — The Embedded Linux Consortium (ELC) will hold its first Interactive Member Review during the Embedded Systems Conference 2000 later this month. Scheduled for Wednesday, September 27, 2000, the invitation-only lunch event will feature a perspective on the state of embedded Linux by Rick Lehrbaum, Executive Editor of ZDNet's LinuxDevices.com. A special effort is being made to attract new members to the global organization which has just reached 99 members.
“At this first meeting of the Embedded Linux Consortium, seven months after its launch at ESC East in Chicago, we are seeking to actively engage with our members to go over our status, mission and future programs.” said ELC's Chairman, Dr. Inder Singh, CEO of LynuxWorks. “We are pleased to also have a speaker from Japan's EMBLIX, a sister organization, to discuss plans for embedded Linux in the Japanese market.”
“The ELC started with zero members,” said Murry Shohat, Executive Director. “Now passing the 100 mark thanks to an unprecedented grass roots effort by visionary individuals and companies, the ELC has much to report, including a powerful plan to enfranchise chapters around the world. We will also reveal plans for Pavilions and technical tracks at future trade convocations, all intended to accelerate embedded Linux. A key area of emphasis is a healthy exchange of views with attendees regarding our mission and programs.”
Members, Media, and Interested non-Members Invited
Invitations are now going out to members, media and analysts. Non-member companies and individuals who wish to attend should contact ELC Executive Director, Murry Shohat, by email or phone (707-576-0115). Seating is limited, on a first-come, first-served basis. A tentative agenda is posted at the ELC website.
About the Embedded Linux Consortium
Responding to the rising tide of interest in Linux for embedded applications, representatives from dozens of technology firms formed the global ELC, a vendor-neutral trade association dedicated to advancing the depth, breadth and speed of Linux adoption in the enormous embedded computer market. In its first 75 days, membership hit 75 (now at 99). 12 nations are represented. For the balance of the year, the ELC plans to visit the Embedded Internet Conference (EIC, September 5 – 7), the Embedded Systems Conference (ESC, September 25 – 28), and the Embedded Linux Expo & Conference (ELEC, October 27) and MTS in Japan (November 15). The ELC offers free membership to developers who demonstrate their participation in the Open Source code base of the Linux operating system.
