The Linux Plumbers Conference (LPC) has issued a call for proposals for its September 17-19 event in Portland, Oregon. The LPC aims to attract top developers to collaborate on Linux “plumbing” issues such as kernel subsystems, core libraries, and windowing systems.

Held at Portland State University's Smith Memorial Center, the conference features keynotes, microconference tracks, working sessions, and evening events hosted by Platinum sponsors IBM and Intel. Other sponsors include NetApp (Gold), and HP, Google, and MontaVista (Silver). Collaborating sponsors include Portland State University and the Linux Foundation, which held its more broadly focused Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit in April. The LPC will feature Linux “rockstar” attendees including Linus Torvalds and Andrew Morton, say the organizers.

The LPC is requesting proposals to speak at the following microconferences, listed here with their respective conference “Runners”:

• The future of Linux storage — Matthew Wilcox
• Video input infrastructure and V4L2 — Mauro Carvalho Chehab
• Power management and tools for efficient resource usage — Matthew Garrett
• Future displays and input devices — Keith Packard
• Dbus for desktop integration — David Zeuthen
• Linux server management — Darrick Wong
• APIs: XCB and graphics — Jamey Sharp
• APIs: Audio — Lennart Poettering
• APIs: Kernel/userspace interfaces — Greg Kroah-Hartman
• Debugging, tuning, tracing, and profiling — Steven Rostedt

Preference will be given to proposals “presenting a reasonable solution to a well-known or little-recognized problem,” say the organizers. The LPC is also looking for extended abstracts from members of the academic community, in particular researchers who are seeking community feedback on work in progress.

As a general rule, each talk should be less than 25 minutes long, say the organizers, and speakers should allow for audience interaction. Proposal abstracts may be up to 500 words and should include a short bio. Submissions must be sent to [email protected] by July 20th, with notification of acceptance following on August 8th.
