Embedded Linux for network devices supports AMD, Moto processors

Kenati Technologies is partnering with AMD and Motorola to offer its network device oriented embedded Linux distribution on AMD and Motorola embedded processors and platforms. Kenati says Network Persona Linux (NP Linux) is optimized for the needs of network device manufacturers and provides small footprint size along with excellent network performance and reliability. In particular, the company claims that the NP Linux network stack, with its high performance network drivers based on “the New API” (NAPI), shows a three- to four-fold improvement in network throughput for small packet sizes compared to standard Linux network drivers.

The Kenati NP Linux distribution includes an embedded software development kit (ESDK) with the full, precompiled GNU cross development toolchain and a graphical build tool which allows selecting the components and applications to be installed on the target. Kenati's ESDK can easily integrate with an IDE on either a Windows or Linux host, the company claims.

NP Linux is available immediately on AMD's Alchemy Solutions Au1000, Au1100, and Au1500 processors, and on Motorola's entire line of host processors, the company says.
