Embedded Linux monitors, automates semiconductor fabs

ErgoTech has launched an embedded Linux based device for SECS (SEMI Equipment Communications Standard) monitoring over the Web in semiconductor fabrication plants. The small “ErgoSIS” unit offers SECS data management as well as factory automation and enterprise integration components.

According to ErgoTech, ErgoSIS can merge disparate data systems for APC/AEC (Advanced Equipment Control/Advanced Process Control), E-Diagnostics, fault detection, message snooping, protocol conversion and other applications.

ErgoSIS provides Web-based SECS message monitoring, and can log data to a USB thumb drive for offline analysis. It is delivered installed on a small Linux based embedded hardware platform with three Ethernet ports. It can be installed for transparent HSMS (High-Speed SECS Message Services) monitoring and snooping without IP address reconfiguration or serial (SECSI) to HSMS conversions.

ErgoSIS TransSECS Toolkit provides a graphical drag-and-drop environment to extend the monitoring application. This includes the ability to snoop SECS messages and add additional messages to either the tool or the host. It provides links to Oracle, SQLServer, MySQL, and a large number of other databases. It also provides direct links to standard factory automation products through XML, Microsoft Windows-based OPC servers, as well as the ability to collect and modify data in real-time controllers such as PLCs or other high-speed add-ons. Barcode scanners and other automated ID systems can be integrated with the application and added to the SECS message stream.

Potential applications include OEE (Overall Equipment Efficiency), preventative maintenance, and other AEC/APC functions. Rapid ROIs can be achieved with recipe verification and management by validating automated lot IDs against MES or MRP systems, according to ErgoTech. ErgoSIS can also merge multiple SECS streams (Y-Tap) or integrate non-SECS equipment and controllers into a SECS environment.

ErggoTech says ErgoSIS was entirely built using the company's drag-and-drop TransSECS application, and therefore is easily extended without programming, ErgoTech claims. ErgoSIS can be purchased as software-only, enabling OEMs and SIs to build custom hardware/software solutions. ErgoSIS is a pure Java application, for maximum portability and easy integration into existing enterprise and enterprise Java (J2EE) applications.

Additional ErgoSIS product information and screen images can be found online.
