TimeSys's subscription-based online service offering for embedded developers has gained a Linux 2.6.17 reference distribution for Atmel's AT91SAM9261 SoC (system-on-chip), new 2.6.11 patches for Freescale's MPC8272-ADS PowerQUICC II development board, and documentation related to static device nodes, cross-compiling drivers, and subversion.

TimeSys's reference distribution for the AT91SAM9261 is based on 2.6.17 kernel patches from Atmel that were submitted to the mainline kernel. It includes “a limited driver support,” according to TimeSys. Atmel chose TimeSys as its “primary Linux distribution mechanism” in May.

The LinuxLink service has also gained a set of Freescale-developed 2.6.11 kernel patches for the MPC8272-ADS reference board. The patches add support the board's SCC1/SCC4 UART ports, FCC1/FCC2 Ethernet ports, USB slave port, PCI interface, and Flash/SDRAM controller, TimeSys says. Freescale partnered with TimeSys on patch distribution in March of 2005.

Additionally, LinuxLink has gained documentation that includes:

• How to create static device nodes without using udev
• How to compile a simple device driver with a 2.6 kernel
• How to access your LinuxLink project's subversion repository

Availability

The distributions, kernels, and documentation are available now, to LinuxLink subscribers. TimeSys provides the patches on an “as is” basis, and does not provide support for the functionality provided by the patches, it says.
