Timesys is offering a LinuxLink subscription for the Texas Instruments OMAP35xx line of system-on-chips (SoCs). The subscription includes the new 2.6.26 Linux kernel, toolchain, and hundreds of prebuilt, ready-to-use RFS (root file system) packages optimized for the processors, says Timesys.

The LinuxLink subscription offers a Linux platform that has been “pre-complied, integrated, and tested” for the OMAP 35x EVM reference platform, says Timesys. The package also provides the company's TimeStorm development tools, plus web-based support and documentation.

Announced in February, TI's OMAP35xx line includes the OMAP3503, OMAP3515, OMAP3525, and OMAP3530. The processors are nearly identical to TI's OMAP3440, a cellphone-oriented chip that was launched about the same time. At the time, TI touted the OMAP35xx parts as availing low-volume embedded customers of the latest technology used in high-volume mobile phone chips.

The 35xx devices are based on 600MHz Cortex-A8 cores, featuring on-chip DSPs and graphics capabilities ranging from SD to HD video. Built with a 65nm process, they incorporate TI's SmartReflex technology for dynamic control of voltage, frequency, and power. Available development boards include Logic's OMAP35x SOM-LV and the Beagle board, an ultra low-cost board created by a small team of TI engineers.

Stated Greg Quiggle, VP of Sales and Marketing for Timesys, “This LinuxLink is our first to support the recently released 2.6.26 kernel as well as support the ARM Cortex-A8 core architecture. Given the strong initial demand, we will likely expand this LinuxLink within the coming weeks to add support for additional OMAP-based reference platforms and further expand the available pre-compiled multimedia package offerings.”
