Embedded real-time POSIX test suite beta testing
Nov 21, 2005 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 8 viewsThe Open Group is beta testing a test suite that tests compliance with a POSIX standard for single-tasking computers with filesystems. The VSPSE52-2003 suite is a merged superset of four previously available Open Group test suites. It tests compliance with POSIX 1003.13 Profile 52, the “embedded real-time controller” system profile.
The Open Group announced its beta program for the new test suite in September, projecting test software beta availability in November.
According to Open Group Director of Certification Andrew Josey, the new test suite is part of an initiative to add Profile 52 Certification to POSIX certified by IEEE, a certification program jointly administered by the IEEE and the Open Group. Profile 52 defines POSIX requirements for embedded real-time systems with filesystems, threads, and single processes, as shown in the chart below.

The Open Group describes the new VSPSE52-2003 test suite as a merged superset of three previously available embedded test suites, including:
- VSX4-PSE — Embedded core POSIX system interfaces tests
- VSTH-PSE — Embedded threads tests
- VSRT-PSE — Embedded realtime tests
Josey expects the beta test period to run for four weeks. Parties interested in helping test the test suite may contact the Open Group for an EDL (early development license).
