The Open Group has scheduled its annual Real-time and Embedded Systems (RTES) Forum for July 21-25 at the InterContinental Hotel in Chicago. The group has released a preliminary agenda, with session topics including security, MILS, and “dependability through assuredness.”

The Open Group maintains and offers certification for standards such as POSIX (portable operating system interface), embedded real-time POSIX, the LSB (Linux standards base), CORBA (common object request broker architecture), DCE (distributed computing environment), LDAP (lightweight directory access protocol), Openi18N (open internationalization), WAP (wireless access protocol), and others. The Open Group also maintains the UNIX standard, and in recent years has sought out the help of open source community contributors to help with the task.

The Open Group's proposed RTES agenda is as follows:

  • Monday-Tuesday, July 21-22 — Dependability through assuredness
  • Wednesday morning, July 23 - Security, with a focus on “Architecting for Assurance” as part of the main Plenary
  • Wednesday afternoon, July 23 — Break-out with a focus on “Application of MILS”
  • Thursday; Friday morning , July 24-25 — “Architecting to the Edge,” with a focus on real world applications

In addition, the Open Group is proposing an invitation-only parallel session for a “JSR 302 SC Java Expert Group” meeting.

More information on the Real-time and Embedded Systems (RTES) Forum, scheduled for July 21-25 at the InterContinental Hotel in Chicago, will be available in about a week, says the Open Group. The information will most likely be posted here.
