Embedian announced two 3.5-inch single-board computers (SBCs) built around its Marvell PXA320-based MXM-8310 and MXM-8110 computer-on-modules (COMs). The XPC-8112 and XPC-8312 SBCs offer a variety of I/O, including Ethernet, USB, and serial ports, and ship with Debian Linux or Windows CE 5.0, says the company.

The two SBCs are identical except for their clock speed, which is also the only difference between the two MXM-based modules they are based on. The XPC-8112 is equipped with the 624MHz MXM-8110, and the XPC-8312 is based on the 806MHz MXM-8310 (right). As shown in the photo above, the modules fit onto the carrier boards to create complete SBCs, measuring 4.0 x 5.7 inches (102 x 145mm).

Announced two weeks ago, the MXM COM boards are Embedian's second generation of COMs using the Nvidia-derived MXM (Mobile PCI Express Module) connector format. The same week, an organization called Qseven released a rival COM spec that also uses an MXM connector, but is slightly larger at 70 x 70 mm compared to Embedian's 66 x 50 mm dimensions.

Embedian's new SBCs are equipped with a 10/100Mbps Ethernet port, four USB 1.1 channels, and five serial ports. The boards also offer storage interfaces, a CompactFlash socket, and an IDE header. For other details, see our earlier, in-depth coverage of Embedian's new MXM COM boards, here.

Availability

The XPC-8112 and XPC-8312 are available now with Linux or Windows CE 5.0 pre-installed, says Embedian. Pricing was not disclosed.
