VersaLogic is readying a rugged, PC/104-Plus single-board computer (SBC) designed for applications including vehicular/aircraft controls and medical electronics. The Manx incorporates an AMD Geode LX800 with 256MB of soldered-on RAM, offers Ethernet, USB, and serial I/O, and supports simultaneous VGA and LVDS displays, says… VersaLogic.

The Manx can be deployed as a stand-alone SBC or can be combined with PC/104 or PC/104-Plus I/O boards via pass-through connectors, says VersaLogic. The board is said to support connections to custom baseboards that are larger than the Manx. In addition, the SBC offers a pin-out and functional migration path for VersaLogic Puma (VL-EPM-5x) SBC users, says the company.

Built around the x86-compatible AMD Geode LX 800 processor, clocked to 500MHz, the Manx offers 256MB of SDRAM soldered on for additional durability. A CompactFlash slot and IDE interface are offered for storage expansion. The Manx supports simultaneous analog VGA and LVDS flat-panel displays, with resolutions of up to 1600 x 1200, says VersaLogic. I/O is said to include an Ethernet port, four USB ports, three COM ports, and an LPT port.

Touted for its “high reliability and long-term 5+ years availability,” the board is said to be rated for MIL-STD-202G compliance on several vibration and mechanical durability tests. The board includes TVS (transient voltage suppression) devices for enhanced ESD (electrostatic discharge) protection for the analog video output, USB, COM, LPT, and Ethernet ports, says the company. An extended temperature version is said to withstand a temperature range of -40 to 185 deg. F.

The fanless SBC is said to consume 5 Watts in active mode. It offers a suspend-to-RAM power management feature that supports a low 0.2W sleep mode, says VersaLogic.
