Empower Technologies emphasizes intent to comply with GPL

Sep 26, 2001 — by Rick Lehrbaum — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

This afternoon, editor Rick Lehrbaum spoke with Paul Leung, CEO of Empower Technologies, regarding an alleged violation of the GNU General Public License (GPL) by the company's LinuxDA embedded Linux operating… system. Here are highlights of the conversation . . .

Lehrbaum: There are some concerns that your company has not met the terms of the GPL with LinuxDA. What is your intention regarding GPL compliance?

Leung: From my perspective we have now done everything possible to be GPL compliant.

Lehrbaum: Are you willing to say that you will make any changes that may be required if issues are identified by an authority such as the Free Software Foundation (FSF)?

Leung: Yes, of course. I've been in constant communication with Richard Stallman. We have been making changes to be sure we comply, and hopefully this will shortly not be an issue any more. We have done everything possible to make sure the concerns are addressed.

Lehrbaum: Would you say, then, that it is your company's intention to comply with the GPL and that you will make whatever changes that requires?

Leung: Yes.
