Freedom Hardware Engineer Conference, 2008 was held in Taipei on Nov. 20-21 and featured an address by well-known hacker and GPL activist Harald Welte (pictured above), who spoke about Linux drivers and the problems with the Linux kernel's lack of a binary interface. This year, Welte will speak again, this time on GPL license compliance. Other speakers include Greg Kroah-Hartman of the Linux Driver Project, Jon Corbet (right) of LWN.net, and Chen Ing Hau, developer of the infamous Chernobyl (CIH) virus. The conference is being held directly after the huge Computex computer show in Taipei.
The conference is sponsored by the Taiwan-based IDEAS Institute of the Institute for Information Industry, and co-sponsored by the Linux Foundation and the Linux Driver Project. The conference is once again billed as an opportunity for hardware vendors “looking for a cost-effective Linux driver strategy.”
