“Enterprise” Zaurus first to run new embedded browser
Jan 13, 2004 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsSharp's just-introduced SL-6000, an enterprise-oriented model featuring IBM middleware, is the first device to feature Opera 7 for embedded devices, Opera Software announced. Sharp's Linux-based Zaurus PDAs have used the Opera browser since the March, 2002 release of the SL-5500.
“The Opera browser represents class-leading capabilities for a seamless online experience when working remotely,” asserted Steve Petix, associate vice president of Sharp's Solutions Division.
Opera CEO Jon S. von Tetzchner added, “Users will enjoy both the new incremental rendering and an improved JavaScript rendering engine. Both advances dramatically speed up Opera's page loading.”
Opera's browser technology is cross-platform and modular, and currently available on Linux, Mac OS, Symbian OS, QNX, TRON, FreeBDS, Solaris, Mediahighway, and Windows.
