UK-based embedded device manufacturer Datasound Laboratories (DSL) has started shipping a RAID-based duplicating appliance for CompactFlash cards and IDE DiskOnModules and hard drives. The Flash Duplicator can program up to ten target devices at once, regardless of format, OS, or partition type, the vendor claims.

DSL says the Flash Duplicator uses RAID mirroring (redundant array of inexpensive disks) to copy individual sectors of storage media, an approach claimed to be faster than serial programming, while enabling exact copies regardless of format, operating system, or partition. Minimal operator training is required, the vendor claims.

The Flash Duplicator measures 17.3 x 9.3 x 6.4 inches (440 x 235 x 162mm), weighs 12.1 pounds (5.5kg), and includes a 20 x 2 backlit LCD. The unit is said to support a wide range of copy and diagnostic functions.

DSL also makes single-board computers in PC/104, ISA-slot, and 3.5-inch form-factors. It has long supported Linux on its board-level products.
