A free, half-day seminar on the U.S. Navy Open Archtecture (OA) will be offered at seven Eastern U.S. cities, in May and June. The seminar will include presentations from LynuxWorks, Arrow Electronics, Motorola, and Real-Time Innovations (RTI), along with discussion of how OA can fulfill military demands, the companies say.

The companies offering the seminar describe OA (PDF download) as a “systems-design approach supported by verifiable governmental testing platforms, such as the Category 3 compliant Open Architecture Computing Environment (OACE), which seeks to implement open specifications for interfaces, services, and supporting formats.”

The companies say the seminars will discuss Navy OA applications such as:

• Distributed processing, unlimited scalability and modularity, high reliability, and fault-tolerant data management
• Standards-based software and hardware building blocks including:
  • Real-time POSIX- and Linux-based operating systems
  • Standards-based publish-subscribe middleware
  • Open hardware architectures with the new VME: ATCA and PICMG3

• MN May 9 – Boston, MA
• May 11 – Patuxent River, MD
• May 23 – Dahlgren, VA
• May 24 – Arlington, VA
• June 14 – Manhattan Beach, CA
