Free training presentation covers CELF optimizations

Nov 17, 2005 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

An embedded Linux training and consulting firm in the South of France has published a free training presentation on optimizing the Linux kernel for speed, size, RAM, power, and/or hardware cost. The new Free Electrons presentation aims to increase the visibility of work done by the Consumer Electronics Linux Forum (CELF), according to creator Michael Opdenacker.

Free Electrons develops French and English-language corporate training programs about open source embedded development, which it shares under the Creative Commons Attribution — Share-alike 2.0 license. The presentations are available in a variety of formats, including HTML, PDF, and OpenOffice.

Free Electrons's new 62-page presentation on CELF covers:

  • Reducing kernel boot time
  • Reducing kernel size and RAM usage
  • Reducing power consumption
  • Global perspective on cost and combined optimizations
  • The importance of good system design

Opdenacker said, “In a nutshell, these [techniques] are useful to reduce time to champagne!”

Additional details, including presentation downloads, can be found on the Free Electrons website, here. CELF's developer wiki can be found here.
