FreeIO.org Releases Hardware Designs Under GPL

Sep 11, 2000 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 4 views

FreeIO.org has released its first two hardware designs under the GNU General Public License (GPL), and has another design in process, which will be released later this year. The two designs just released are:

  • Flapjack — Fully programmable ISA bus I/O Board, using only through-hole parts. The Flapjack design is based on the Lattice ispLSI1032E-70LJ CPLD, in a socketed 84-pin PLCC package. There is only one integrated circuit on the board. This design is the minimum complexity design, because of the limited number of pins available in the socketable PLCC package. A photo of the board is available to view, here.

  • Cornbread — Fully programmable ISA bus I/O Board, using surface mount parts. The Cornbread design is based on the Lattice ispLSI2096A-80LQ128 CPLD, in a 128 pin Plastic Quad Flat Pack (PQFP). There is only one integrated circuit on the board. The Cornbread design is very versatile, and allows many ways to utilize it for I/O functions. A photo of the board is available to view, here.
The FreeIO.org site exists to provide a location for cooperative development of free hardware designs, and driver software for them. All hardware designs are released under GPL in source form, with the specification, schematic, printed circuit board, and manufacturing files included.
