Last night at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Bill Gates announced the launch of Windows CE .NET in his keynote address. In addition to this, the Embedded and Appliance Platforms Group announced the Windows CE .NET Evaluation and Emulation Editions, a new training curriculum available for customers, and the increased availability of source code for the new platform. Today at the show, Microsoft partners and customers will be on hand to introduce the first wave of Windows CE .NET-based products, including mobile handhelds, smart phones, mobile point of sale devices and industrial automation devices.

In addition, the EAPG unveiled a new technology named Mira, which is a set of technologies that brings the power of Windows XP into every room in the home. Based on Windows CE .NET, Mira is designed to be included in a variety of smart display devices including flat screen monitors and digital TVs which connect wirelessly to a Windows XP PC. This connectivity will provide consumers with access to their familiar applications and personal data including Web browsing, composing and reading email,
listening to music and viewing/editing digital images.
