Generic Radio IP (GENRIP) driver for Linux kernel released to GPL

Nov 3, 2002 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 2 views

Crystal River, FL — DOD Inc. has announced the release of GENRIP, an open source Linux kernel driver for generic 900 MHz and 2.4 GHz serial radios, such as Microhard's MHX series. GENRIP connects one or more radios seamlessly into the Linux network stack, thus speeding the development of low-speed wireless telemetry and SCADA… applications that employ an Embedded Linux solution. Radios interfaced with GENRIP appear as standard interfaces in ifconfig, etc.

GENRIP is based on the STRIP driver by Stuart Cheshire at Stanford University, and as such, is being released under the GPL. DOD is now maintaining the driver, but the original port was funded by NETSEC.
