A new PowerPC-based PrPMC (Processor PCI Mezzanine Card) is available from esd-electronics system design gmbh. The Linux-compatible PMC-CPU/440 CPU module can automatically switch between monarch (PrPMC) and non-monarch (PMC) mode according to the system's requirements.

The module can be used for PMC applications or as a standardized CPU add-on module, says esd-electronics. Based on a PowerPC AMCC PPC440EPx clocked at 533MHz or 667MHz, the module is said to offer peak performance of 1334 DMIPS. In its base configuration, the board is equipped with 256MB DDR2 RAM and 256MB NAND flash.

An on-board FPGA (field-programmable gate array) provides two CAN-bus IP cores with high resolution hardware timestamps, and permits application specific extensions. System time is supported via RTC (with double layer capacitor) or IRIG-B timecode protocols.
