3U cPCI board offers I/O expansion option

Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES) is shipping a 3U CompactPCI single board computer (SBC) based on the Intel Core i7 processor and Intel QM57 chipset. Offering conduction- or air-cooled designs and three ruggedization levels, the XPedite7330 is equipped with a DVI port, dual gigabit Ethernet ports, two USB 2.0 ports, two serial ports, and four SATA ports, the company says.

Designed for network information processing and other embedded computing applications, the XPedite7330 can be considered a 3U counterpart to the recently announced, 6U XCalibur4301. While the dimensions are obviously different, the two CompactPCI (cPCI) boards share the same Intel QM57 chipset and choice of Intel Core i7 dual-core Intel Core i7 processors, namely the i7-610E (2.53GHz), -620LE (2.0GHz), and -620UE (1.06GHz).

The SBCs also offer identical ruggedization levels and operating system support. The latter includes board support packages (BSPs) for Linux, VxWorks, QNX Neutrino, and Integrity. Windows drivers are also available, says the company.

The XPedite7330 offers half the memory of the 6U XCalibur4301, with 8GB of DDR3 SDRAM, as well as a much smaller allotment (16GB) of NAND flash.

The design is structured with J1 and J2 cPCI interfaces, with J1 offering a 32-bit PCI slot, and J2 housing the I/O. The latter includes a DVI port, dual gigabit Ethernet ports, two USB 2.0 ports, two serial ports, and four SATA ports, as well as four GPIO signals, says X-ES.

There is also a PrPMC/XMC site available. This offers a PCI bus with a PMC interface, as well as an eight-lane PCI Express (PCIe) port with an XMC interface, says the company. An optional front-panel I/O module offers additional ports.

Three levels of ruggedization are available, with different levels of temperature, shock, and vibration resistance. The highest level offers support for operating temperatures of -40 to 185 deg. F (-40 to 85 deg. C), says the company.
