Word spread around Linux and Open Source oriented websites like wildfire this week that Microsoft Corp. will be an exhibitor at the upcoming LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in San Francisco next month. In response to an inquiry from LinuxDevices.com, a Microsoft spokesperson provided the following statement . . .

“On Tuesday, July 2, 2002 Microsoft's Embedded & Appliance Platforms Group closed on their attendance at the LinuxWorld Conference Expo to be held August 12-15, 2002 in San Francisco; Microsoft will have small presence in the “Rookery” portion of the exhibit hall. Microsoft will be showcasing our embedded offerings for developers (Windows CE .NET and Windows XP Embedded) at the event and discussing the many offerings for the developer community with the goal of educating developers who may not be familiar with our products, and engage in interesting dialogue about Windows Embedded and its comparisons to Linux offerings.”

Additional insight is provided by this article at LinuxToday.com in which Peter Houston, Sr. Dir. of the Windows Server Product Management Group, is quoted as saying “It's about that first step in a broader dialog [with the Linux community] and showing our customers some of the great things in our embedded products.”

Additionally, LinuxWorld expo today announced that Microsoft is a confirmed exhibitor at the August event.
