Froglogic is preparing a version of its automated GUI (graphical user interface) test suite that supports GUIs written with Tk (toolkit). Squish/Tk also supports GUIs written in mixed Qt/Tk environments, the company says. Squish is a GUI testing tool aimed at EDA (electronic design automation) applications.

Froglogic originally launched Squish about two years ago, followed by Squish 2.0 in August of last year. Previously, versions for Qt and XView GUIs were available.

Tk is a set of widgets and GUI libraries originally written for use with TCL (tool control language, aka “tickle”). Tk was later ported to Perl, and Froglogic last month released a port of perl/Tk to Trolltech's Qt and Qt/Embedded frameworks.

In addition to pure Tk applications, the new Squish/Tk product supports GUIs written in mixed Qt/Tk environments, using Froglogic's “tq” libraries, according to the company.

CTO Reginald Stadlbauer stated, “Due to our Tk product offerings such as Tq and Pq and a strong customer base in the EDA industry, we saw high demand for automatic GUI testing of Tk applications in the market. This helped us decide that Tk would become the next toolkit supported by Squish.”

Availability

Squish/Tk will be officially launched with the upcoming release of Squish 2.2. Meanwhile, pre-releases are being used by pilot customers, Froglogic says.
