HA Linux + CPCI power next generation DSL gear

Oct 22, 2001 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 1 views

Denver, CO — (press release excerpt) — VDSL Systems announced today that it will integrate an open hardware/software system-level platform from Motorola Computer Group, a part of Motorola, Inc., into its complete Internet Protocol (IP) VDSL equipment. VDSL Systems will build its solutions using infrastructure from Motorola — specifically, Motorola's CPX1205 CompactPCI platform and its High Availability… Software for Linux (HA Linux). The technology provides an effective range of 5,000 feet (approximately 1,500 meters) and speeds of 10 to 23Mbps.

VDSL Systems' technology is designed to help telecommunications companies and service providers bridge “the last mile” at speeds current DSL technologies can't even approach. Very high speed digital subscriber line (VDSL) technology, supported by VDSL Systems' equipment, makes applications such as video on demand, videoconferencing, HDTV and other network solutions commercially viable for both businesses and consumers.
